Have you ever wanted to make a backup of your entire system in Windows XP, but never wanted to pay for an expensive software package that would allow you to accomplish this task?

In my first attempt to make a back up (ASR) for my complete hard drive - (C 115GB TOTAL SIZE of which 17.9GB is used), I chose DVD drive D with a 4.7GB DVR+RW to put the .bkf file onto.
I Had assumed (INCORRECTLY) that when the disc was full I would be prompted to insert another dvd, but the prompt that appeared indicated that the task had to abandoned, but I was left with a .bkf file on the dvd of just a bit less than 4.7GB. I note from the article that the .bkf file should be copied to the hard drive (C). If I do this will I be able to copy the .bkf file to dvds, or will I have to get alternative storeage media large enough to accomodate my 17.9GB I have read about "disc spaning" software.-- It seems unlikely that it could be used to put the .bkf file straight onto the dvds, but may be necessary to copy the .bkf file from the hard drive. |
