Data Recovery: When You Think You've Lost Everything

What is Data Recovery?

If your computer has crashed and you think that there is no way that you will be able to restore your files, data recovery is the last resort. Even if you cannot access anything or even run your computer, all the data that made up your hard disk is still on the disk somewhere. There are computer experts out there who have made it their business to do all they can to recover your data for you, no matter how much damage has come to your computer.

If you have had a computer crash, or a virus infection or some other catastrophe occur to your computer, and you need to have those files recovered then you will want to use a data recovery service.

How do I Find Someone to do Data Recovery on my Computer?

There are many different data recovery companies out there. Online is a great place to start searching them out. You also might want to try a computer store in your own hometown. Many people who work with computers or computer repair might be able to do data recovery on your machine. However, the more damaged your system is the more difficult it will be to perform data recovery on it, and the more expensive it will most likely be. However, if you need the files on your computer and have no backups for it, then you will most definitely want to find someone who can recover your data for you.

How Exactly Does Data Recovery Work?

Even if your operating system is no longer functioning, or all of the data has been deleted, it can still be in existence somewhere on your hard drive. The difficulty lies in finding it. Those who will do your data recovery are computer experts well trained in the art of computers and of finding lost data. Most often, they will create a complete copy of your hard drive, so that whatever manipulations that they make in order to recover your data will not affect your original machine.

This also means that if they cause a change that makes the disk completely inoperable for data recovery, they will still be able to make another copy if required.

Most data recovery companies and programmers will give you a free estimate before performing your data recovery. This is to ensure that they will actually be able to recover your data for you, as well as know what it will take, how long it will take and how much they will charge you. If they find that they are unable to perform the operation for you, they will most likely charge you nothing or at most a nominal fee.

Just because one data recovery company cannot recover your files does not mean that no company can recover your files, but if you try two or three places and all of them say they cannot do it, then most likely it means that you cannot restore your files. This is rare, however, as computer exerts can almost always find a way to recover your data for you.
